We are doing the VBS Discovery Canyon theme this year. We usually seperate the groups by age and also seperate groups by color coded hats/bandanas/etc.... I am stumped this year on what to do with that. Last year we did different colored adventure hat for the rainforest. Any suggestions???
We were going to separate each group into one of the animals. We have five age groups so it works well. Maybe we could make animal hats or something???
We did bandanas. The kids have their names on them in sharpie as well. All the team members have purple bandanas with a ribbon border the color of their class.
We did bandanas. We got cotton fabric and cut it into (about) 18" squares and the kids decorated them the first night, mostly by stamping. We put each kid's name with Sharpie on an edge or corner. A little raveling really wasn't an issue but you could have the kids run a glue stick or paint some clear or colored glue around the edges if you were concerned.
The first night everyone got a stick-on name tag at registration and then after that, their bandana was their name tag. The canyon guides (small gorup leaders) collected them at the end of each night and passed them out again at the next so they didn't get left at home.
We use clear plastic name-tag holders -- available at any stationary store, or Wal-mart -- with different colour card stock inserts; a different colour for each age group.
They are collected at the end of each day, then handed back out the next morning.
