Discovery Canyon

AV has not announced yet. This seems like the latest they have ever waited to announce and I haven't seen a date posted for an announcement. Strange.

In the meantime, several of us are trying to guess the theme: so far we've guessed polar and lunar. Anyone have any more guesses?

Wow! I'm so glad to see someone else has asked this question. I, too, have been searching for the theme (et. al.) next year. We usually talk about the next summer's theme at our final planning meeting for the current year and decide whether or not we want to go with it for the next year. With our VBS next week, I usually hand out to all of our participants on the final night a sheet with the next summer's daily themes, animals, Bible verses, etc. I have been searching and found nothing, hence my visit back here as I was hoping to discover something to help in making up that sheet to hand out next Friday, 8/7/2009. Oh well. . .hopefully it will be announced soon!! We're anxiously awaiting the announcement!

Hi I went to Augsberg site & questioned them last week. They responded that not only is it not availble yet, but that will announce within the next COUPLE of Months! That seems extremely up in the air to me! I really wanted to give a 'sneak peak' at our VBS end next week too, and also see what I can get on clearance at the end of this summer too. I'm already looking at other options of different curriculum sources, especially places that 'field test' the curriculum.

AV does 'field test' Somewhere out there, there should be a church that hosted a short version of of next year's VBS before now. However, they aren't telling! Theme, bible stories, verses, and such should have been finalized for next year by March of this year. I'm not sure why they don't want to pre-release this informaration even if all the graphics/package mockups and such aren't done. I hope there isn't a major problem.

It seems like every church in a 4 county region (including lots of Methodists) used Great Bible Reef a few years back, but we were the only ones to use Discovery Canyon. Everyone else used Crock Dock (Group?). I like sticking with AV because the bible stories and themes make a great sequence so that by the time the kid has come for 5 years or so, they have a great foundation without repeating the same stories over and over. However, knowing next year's theme by now would certainly have made my job easier and made looking elsewhere much less of a temptation!

I also wanted to share next year's theme options with my crew this year (in two weeks). Augsburg Fortress is going to lose users if they don't get the theme out there soon. I don't gather my VBS crew together again until next year--so they may just chose to go Pirate!

Yes, it would be nice to know but really... is anybody going to switch just because we don't know NOW? PLEASE, show a little patience. Personally, I get SUPER annoyed at getting NEXT year's VBS promos before I have even finished cleaning up this years!

I HOPE that AF is using the extra time this year to concentrate on MUSIC.

A++++++ on the science portion!!!!

Not knowing the theme made cleaning up and packing up a lot harder this year and will make setting up for next year harder because I always pack anything that we can use for the next year's theme in different boxes from other things I just want to keep.

Secondly, unless there is a MAJOR problem with the main theme they have chosen, AF could have announced the name almost a year ago. You don't have to have your promotion materials in the mail to announce a name. And, since it is now certainly too late for any other company to change next year's VBS because of AF's theme, I really don't see AF having a good reason not to announce the basics: name, daily themes and bible stories would be plenty to get everyone looking forward to next year.

We used AF for 3 years but this year, the whole canyon theme left me uninspired. I thought decorating would be very time consuming and not much fun. I would really like to come back to AF next year but, I do shop ahead and often times, summer is the time to find supplies. I have talked to people from many of the companies at times with suggestions and they always tell me that the materials are a year ahead. They are now in the early planning stages for 2011 so, it makes no sense that they will not announce 2010. Many of the companies only give the theme and the Bible stories at this point in time and the details emerge later. Come on AF, share!!

We did not use AF this year. A major deciding factor was the music of the past few years. We loved the music by Justin Roberts in the Camp Creation and Circus Spectacular.

So, Nancy, I hope you are right about them using the extra time for the music.

Actually, yes--people do switch. Most of the other publishers have announced theirs, and being able to pick up on the end of summer sales makes a huge difference in what we are able to do. I like to know as soon as possible, because we have a number of people out there helping us find "stuff." This allows us to have great decorations for the theme. It would also be nice to tell all the volunteers, to help them think of even more great ideas for the next year. Since we use many teens, summer is their time to think about VBS, not after the school year starts. (Which here is tomorrow!)
